  • Jon Miller, News Corp. Chief Digital Officer to Speak at ELEVATE Conference

    I'm delighted to announce that Jon Miller, News Corp. Chief Digital Officer and Chairman/CEO of its Digital Media Group, will speak at ELEVATE: Online Video Advertising Summit, on Tuesday, June 7th in NYC. Jon will participate in a fireside chat with David Kenny, President of Akamai Technologies (and former Chairman and CEO of Digitas), following David Kenny's opening mini-keynote. The title for the mini-keynote and fireside session is "Toward Digital Dollars: The State of the Market for Premium Online Video."

    Jon is one of the most experienced digital media executives in the world and it is an honor to have him participate in ELEVATE. In particular, the topic that he will address could not be timelier. Producers of premium video content are singularly focused on how to optimally monetize their content on the burgeoning online and mobile video platforms. As a board member of Hulu - and with his numerous other experiences - Jon has unique insights on the topic. In addition, News Corp. has been one of the most aggressive investors and participants in online and mobile video and so the lessons and best practices Jon will share will be invaluable.

  • Senior Comcast, ESPN, Turner Executives to Discuss TV Everywhere's Game-Changing Role at ELEVATE

    I'm delighted to announce that TV Everywhere's game-changing role in the TV and advertising ecosystems will be the topic of a marquee panel of cable industry executives at ELEVATE: Online Video Advertising Summit on Tuesday, June 7th in New York City. The panel, which I'll moderate, is titled "TV Everywhere: Game-Changer for Premium Online Video and Advertising" and includes:

    • Jeremy Legg - SVP, Business Development and Multi-Platform Distribution, Turner Broadcasting System
    • David Preschlack - EVP, Affiliate Sales and Marketing, Disney & ESPN Networks Group

    As I've written since it first burst onto the scene almost 2 years ago, TV Everywhere is the most significant initiative in the TV industry today because it aims to untether all of the most popular programs from cable TV networks that have traditionally been locked to the set-top box in the TV room, making them available on myriad connected and mobile devices. In this respect, TV Everywhere is a strategic imperative for the pay-TV industry; as new entrants like Netflix, Hulu Plus and others have strongly embraced delivery to connected and mobile devices, they have raised the competitive bar for all others.

  • Five More Industry Leaders Partner with ELEVATE: Tremor Media, FreeWheel, YuMe, Collective and The Fortex Group

    I'm pleased to share news this morning that five more leading companies in the online video industry have partnered with ELEVATE: Online Video Advertising Summit on Tuesday, June 7th, in NYC: Tremor Media (Title Partner), FreeWheel and YuMe (Premier Partners), Collective (Exhibitor Partner) and The Fortex Group (Marketing Partner). Each of these companies has distinguished itself in its own way, and we are delighted to have their support for ELEVATE.   • VideoNuze Report Podcast #91 - Mar. 11, 2011

    I'm pleased to present the 91st edition of the VideoNuze Report podcast, for March 11, 2011.

    In this week's podcast, Daisy Whitney and I discuss YouTube's acquisition of independent online video producer Next New Networks. As I explained in my post earlier this week, while it's tempting to see Google/YouTube becoming a content creator itself with the deal, instead I think of the move as taking a page from the cable industry's early playbook. YouTube is trying to play the role of "strategic catalyst" for online video creators, similar to what early cable TV operators did for early cable TV networks. Daisy doesn't see it quite the way I do however, which might suggest I'm giving YouTube more credit than they deserve. We'll see how it plays out over time.

    Then we talk briefly about "ELEVATE: Online Video Advertising Summit," a new 1-day conference I announced earlier this week. Note, just as I finish up inviting Daisy to participate, the gremlins attacked and the podcast recording unexpectedly stopped. For those of you interested in her response, she said "she'd be happy to join us, that is if she's not in Paris at the time." Ahhh, choices, choices.

  • Announcing ELEVATE: Online Video Advertising Summit, On Tuesday, June 7th In NYC

    Today I'm very excited to announce ELEVATE: Online Video Advertising Summit, a new, one-day conference, which, as the name implies, will focus entirely on the dynamic online video advertising industry. The date of the conference is Tuesday, June 7th, during Internet Week in New York City.

    I'm equally excited to share that my partner in ELEVATE is Marc Sternberg, who until recently was the President and COO of AlwaysOn, the highly respected technology industry conference/networking company. Marc has a wealth of event and sponsorship experience from organizing over 20 executive-level events at AO. He also has deep entertainment industry experience from 23 years on the publishing side of The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. Importantly, we share a common vision for the ELEVATE conference and our skills are extremely complementary to one another.

    ELEVATE will be a must attend event for senior executives from brands, agencies, content providers/publishers, technology providers and others in the fast-growing online video ad ecosystem who are eager to see it grow and mature. Marc and I intend to work closely with key industry thought-leaders to attract the right participants, create the most informative sessions and enable the best networking so that attendees have the highest-impact experience. We see ELEVATE as a joint venture with online video ad leaders who understand that a rising tide lifts all boats.
