Roku Is Dropping Fox Apps -- 2 Days Before The Super Bowl

Just two days before the Fox’s airing of the Super Bowl, streaming set-top-box provider Roku says it is dropping a number of Fox apps, due to stalling talks over carriage negotiations.

Fox Television Network and other Fox digital platforms are airing the big game on Sunday, Feb. 2.

In an email from Roku on Thursday evening, it alerted customers that on Friday, Jan. 31, Fox channels would no longer be available on its platform. It directed its customers to other services — FuboTV, Hulu+Live TV, Sling TV and YouTube — which could offer free trials.

Roku also said if customers had a Roku TV, it could access Fox via a digital antenna.

Roku carries Fox apps, including Fox Now, Fox Sports, Fox News, Fox Business, Fox Soccer, Big Ten Network and Fox Nation.

On Thursday, the NFL said digital streaming platforms for the Super Bowl will include NFL.com, Fox Sports, Fox Deportes, Yahoo Sports, and respective San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chief mobile platforms.

The NFL said the platforms will be “free on all devices.”

As of November 2019, Roku said it had 30.5 million active accounts.
