Whistle Sports Leaps Onto Verizon’s Go90 With ‘The Dunk League’

It seems as if Verizon’s Go90 has made deals with every single multi-channel network and content studio in the digital media business, and the mobile-centric video platform’s latest series comes from another familiar producer. It is hosting The Dunk League, a high-flying reality competition created by the team at Whistle Sports.

Whistle Sports has established itself as a locus for sports content creators on the web, and The Dunk League furthers that reputation by pitting eight high-flying athletes against one another in a high-flying contest. The Dunk League participants are billed as “eight of the world’s best dunkers,” and the one who pulls of the most sensational slams will earn $20,000. You’ll have to download Go90 to view the series, but a teaser is available on the Whistle Sports YouTube channel.

Channels that celebrate the slam dunk have become a significant subcategory within Whistle Sports since its inception two years ago. The network’s partners include Team Flight Brothers and the Harlem Globetrotters.

Other recent premieres on Go90 include New Form Digital’s The Fourth Door, Vice’s Daily Vice, and CollegeHumor’s Fatal Decision. “Bringing Whistle Sports to go90 is exciting for so many reasons,” said Dave Altarescu, director of marketing for go90, in a press release. “The way that the Whistle Sports team has been re-imagining sports content as a way to bridge the gap between their creators and their respective fanbases is remarkable. It’s hard to not be a fan.”

Go90, which launched in October 2015, is available on both Google Play and the App Store.
