NBCU to Distribute Shows Online via SanDisk’s Fanfare

Dec 11, 2007  •  Post A Comment

NBC Universal will distribute TV shows from NBC, USA, Sci Fi Channel, Bravo and NBC’s library on Fanfare, an online distribution service from technology company SanDisk. The deal starts in January.
The SanDisk Fanfare service lets consumers download TV shows and other video content from their computers to play back on a television.
NBC said it made the deal in part because of the copyright protection tools SanDisk offers. SanDisk likely will include watermarking and filtering tools for the shows.
NBC also said the partners will “collaborate on new consumer content acquisition models, including flexible pricing and packaging.”
Pricing and copyright protection were two factors NBC cited when it ended its deal with iTunes earlier this fall.
