BAMTech has tapped a digital media veteran to oversee Disney’s push into streaming.
The Disney-owned technology provider has named Kevin Swint senior vp and general manager for the forthcoming streaming service, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Swint brings several years of experience from Samsung and Apple to his new role, which will see him handling the development of the family-friendly service. He has spent the last two years as a technology and media consultant, per his LinkedIn page. Prior to that, he spent two years as vp product/content and services at Samsung. Earlier in his career, he served as director of international movies at iTunes for five years.
He will report to BAMTech CEO Michael Paull in his new role, which Swint started earlier this month.
Disney coupled news that it would acquire BAMTech with the reveal that it is prepping two streaming services, an ESPN-branded product for sports and a family-friendly service featuring Marvel, Pixar and Lucasfilm IP. The sports service, ESPN Plus, is set to debut later this year. The Disney service is expected to launch in 2019.
Late last year, Disney revealed that it is planning a live-action Star Wars series for the streaming service, in addition to shows based on Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. and Disney Channel’s High School Musical. Longtime Disney and ABC Television executive Agnes Chu has been tapped to oversee programming for the service. She has previously worked in story and franchise development at Walt Disney Imagineering and as a vp in the office of CEO Bob Iger.
Variety first reported on news of Swint’s hiring.
