The CW Network Expands License Agreement With Netflix

The CW Network and Netflix July 5 announced a new multiyear content licensing relationship that allows the subscription streaming video pioneer to remain the exclusive domestic online TV service for previous seasons of scripted series broadcast on The CW.

The CW Network, which is joint venture between CBS and Warner Bros. Entertainment, said the new deal includes all current series, as well as all future programs produced for the network during the term of the new agreement, which begins with the just-completed 2015-16 broadcast season.

Starting with the 2016-17 season, Netflix subs will be able to stream full seasons for each of these programs beginning eight days after each show’s season broadcast finale.

“The CW has positioned itself for the future by transforming into a true hybrid network, rooted in broadcast while fully embracing the digital and streaming habits of the viewers,” Mark Pedowitz, president of The CW, said in a statement.

Programming includes the three new series “Frequency,” “No Tomorrow” and “Riverdale”; the DC series “Legends of Tomorrow” and “Supergirl,” which joins “Arrow,” “Flash,” and critically acclaimed “Jane the Virgin” and “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” featuring Gina Rodriguez and Rachel Bloom, respectively. The roster will also continue to include “The Vampire Diaries,” “The 100,” “iZombie,” “The Originals” and “Reign.”

“This is a great step forward with a valued network partner to give fans exactly what they want, when and how they want it,” said Netflix CCO Ted Sarandos.
