Twitter and its social live streaming service Periscope are now joined at the hip: Twitter officially integrated Periscope’s live streams into its timeline Tuesday, where live video streams are now be auto-playing directly within tweets. Users will also be able to access replays of past broadcasts within the Twitter app, and don’t have to download Periscope or register for a Periscope account anymore to start watching.

Twitter’s Periscope integration is being added on iOS first; support for Android and the web is being promised for the near future. After that, Twitter is likely going to bring Periscope streams to its curated Moments section as well.

Twitter has been working on boosting its video plays across its apps and platforms in recent months in order to bring in more valuable video advertising. Periscope has been a notable hit for the company that has struggled to grow users for its core service. Since its launch last year, Periscope users have launched more than 100 million live broadcasts.

So far, Twitter hasn’t been monetizing Periscope, and instead focused on growing the user base for the social live streaming service. But with Periscope directly integrated into the Twitter app and timeline, one shouldn’t be too surprised if ads start popping up on Periscope soon as well.
