YouTube and Awesomeness Films have announced “Dance Camp,” a music-and-dance teen drama, as the first feature-length film under their co-production deal.

The movie, produced by Jon M. Chu (“Step Up Revolution,” “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never,” “Jem and the Holograms”), stars popular YouTuber Meg DeAngelis and Vine celeb Jake Paul, alongside Nadji Jeter (“Grown Ups”).

“Dance Camp” is the latest movie to feature digital stars, which are fueled by the idea that their large social followings will spur a big turnout for their longer-form projects. Awesomeness Films, formed earlier this year by DreamWorks Animation’s AwesomenessTV, this summer released “Smosh: The Movie” with Defy Media following last year’s high-school comedy “Expelled,” with Vine star Cameron Dallas.

The film will be directed by British female duo Bert & Bertie, with Fatima Robinson (“The Voice,” “Dreamgirls,” “Save the Last Dance”) slated to choreograph the feature. “Dance Camp” is scripted by Nick Turner and Rex New Cast, both repped by Abrams Artists Agency. Cast also includes Josh Leyva, Jordyn Jones, Jacob Wysoki, Niki Demartino and Gabi Demartino.

“Music and dance are universally appealing. We are thrilled to be working with prolific dance experts like Jon and Fatima on ‘Dance Camp’ as they continue to set the bar for the dance genre,” said Matt Kaplan, president of Awesomeness Films.

The companies didn’t announce an expected premiere date or other details of the film’s release. YouTube previously announced plans to co-produce several movies with AwesomenessTV.

According to Google, dance is one of the most popular categories on YouTube, currently home to more than 24 million dance-related videos.

Chu and Hieu Ho are producing for Chu Studios. Chu is currently in post-production on Universal’s “Jem and the Holograms,” an adaptation of the ’80s animated TV series, and “Now You See Me 2” for Lionsgate.

In “Dance Camp,” Hunter (Jeter) gets busted by his mom for throwing a party – and she sends him off to a dance camp, where he meets a bunch of eclectic misfits. Although he first refuses to take the camp seriously, he’s eventually inspired to take down a rival dance group led by Lance (Paul) and along the way also falls in love with Cheyenne (DeAngelis).
