Cablevision, the cable provider for a valuable pocket of suburbia surrounding New York City, will be the first company of its kind to sell a new CBS programming-via-broadband service in a new distribution deal the companies announced Tuesday.

Under terms of the pact, Cablevision will become the first cable or satellite provider to announce plans to distribute CBS All Access, a new subscription-based service that gives users access to current and past CBS programming, as well as Showtime for streaming video.  The companies said pricing plans, timing and other particulars would be disclosed at some point in the future.

The new deal also covers retransmission consent for CBS-owned stations, and the continued carriage of Showtime, CBS Sports Network and Smithsonian Channel. Financial terms were not disclosed.
