Almost four full months after launching on the Xbox One, HBO Go is finally launching on the PS4 later today, closing a major gap in the console's app selection. Sony acknowledged the long wait on the official PlayStation Blog, with Sony Computer Entertainment of America executive Phil Rosenberg writing, "We know you've been looking forward to this day."

The HBO Go app for PS4 functions just like the PS3 version, which launched almost exactly a year ago, allowing users to watch their favorite classic and new shows on the fly and in between games. As always, subscribers will need to log in using their cable credentials, with supported providers including Time Warner Cable, Dish, and Verizon among others.

The timing couldn't be better

The timing also couldn't be better. The new season of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver just started, and Game of Thrones is still a month away, so fans who haven't shelled out for a supported set-top box can finally watch each series as they were meant to be watched.
