PBS Digital Studios is adding four new series to its network of more than 30 online series.
The public broadcaster, presenting at its first Digital Content NewFronts in New York, announced that two of the series — linguistics program Bongo Bongo and culinary series Food Buzz — are launching today on its YouTube network.
Bongo Bongo from writer Ethan Fixell explores the history of English-language words, and Food Buzz with host Chris Hauselt looks at the latest food news and history behind popular food memes. Both series were produced in partnership with Magnet Media.
Debuting later this year is PBS Digital Studios’ first scripted series, Frankenstein, M.D. The series, which comes from Lizzie Bennet Diaries creators Pemberley Digital and ep Bernie Su, follows the medical experiments of Victoria Frankenstein.
Pancake Mountain, a reboot up the music variety show, will launch this summer.
“PBS Digital Studios is committed to providing high-quality original video content that is true to the PBS brand and that online audiences love,” said PBS Digital Studios senior director Matt Graham. “For brands looking to connect with a smart and engaged, digitally savvy audience, PBS Digital Studios is the perfect partner.”
PBS launched the YouTube network in 2012. Today it offers more than 30 series, including local productions in partnership with PBS member stations, that have accumulated more than 1 million subscribers and more than 75 million views. PBS also distributes its digital series on over-the-top services such as Roku, Xbox and Apple TV.
