LG is releasing its webOS smart TV platform in Europe, which will be included in more than half of the company's new TVs introduced this year.

LG promises the user interface will facilitate an "optimised, user-friendly experience"; connecting with other devices and reducing the number of steps required to switch between content.

The system also offers recommendations based on popularity of programme, simplified browsing options without moving away from the programme or film currently being watched and easy content classification under category tabs. Viewing history is also readily available.

Pressing the home button on the TV remote triggers a selection of brightly-coloured menus including the Today option, offering a variety of popular content from YouTube videos and live broadcast to streaming services (including Netflix, Roku and Hulu) and games consoles.

New smart televisions to go on sale with inbuilt webOS include the Ultra HD, OLED and Cinema 3D, and will be rolled out across Europe from the beginning of this month.

LG TVs offer numerous features designed to "make the TV the entertainment hub of every living room." Stressed-out customers can recuperate by activating Healing Mode, which uses sound therapy to improve one’s well-being in four different categories ― Deep Sleep, Increased Mental Strength, Stress Relief and Refresh.

Sports fans can use Sports Mode to fine-tune colour expression on their screen, optimise surround sound and uses Clear Voice technology to "turn any living room into a raucous sports arena."

The company's Colour Refiner technology controls the colour temperature of each individual pixel on the OLED TV screens to produce richer, more consistent images.

TV application eGallery allows users to turn their living rooms into art galleries through the catalogue of more than 150 works of art by some of the world's most famous artists, accompanied by "beautiful melodies".

Kim Ki-wan, executive vice-president of overseas sales and marketing for LG, said: "Our wide range of OLED and Ultra HD Tvs is pushing the industry forward in terms of image quality and ease of use while webOS allows our customers to get the most out of our technology."
