News Corp. digital strategist Greg Clayman will join the Vimeo online video service as its general manager of audience networks, the company confirmed.

Clayman launched and served as publisher of News Corp.’s pioneering (if short-lived) tablet publication, the Daily, which was the first daily news product designed for the iPad.

In his new role at Vimeo, Clayman will be responsible for its video-on-demand business and for cultivating brand partnerships. The site was founded in 2004 by a group of filmmakers who wanted to share their creative work. It has about 20 million registered users and its videos attract more than 100 million views a month.

“Greg’s tremendous experience and expertise across online and mobile video distribution, subscription products and advertiser partnerships will be instrumental as we grow our business,” Vimeo Chief Executive Kerry Trainor said in a statement.

Before joining News Corp., Clayman served as executive vice president of digital distribution for MTV Networks, where he ran the mobile division. He also was responsible for Viacom’s first deals with digital distributors Hulu, Netflix and others.

Clayman could not be reached for comment, but in a statement he noted the service’s growth and the launch of an on-demand video platform that gave creators new pricing options and tools.

“I’m thrilled to be joining the team,” Clayman said in a statement.
