Hulu Plus for Windows Phone 8 is available to download now

It has been a long time coming, but Hulu Plus has finally arrived for Windows Phone 8 users.

Founded in 2007, Hulu is a US-only online TV service that helps users discover premium content from around the world. Its ownership is shared between Hulu, NBCUniversal, News Corporation and The Walt Disney Company. Hulu Plus is its cross-platform ad-supported subscription-based service, launched in late 2010.

While the on-demand video-streaming service has been on Windows 8 for more than six months already, and apps have been available for iOS, Android and a multitude of other connected devices for some time, Microsoft’s mobile operating system has thus far proved elusive for Hulu Plus. Until today.

The app works across WiFi or 3G, and will be open to subscribers for $7.99/month – with advertising, too.

Hulu Plus passed 4 million subscribers in Q1 2013, whether its launch on Windows Phone boosts this number at all remains to be seen. It’s probably more notable for Microsoft, however, as it strives to make Windows Phone a more compelling proposition for Android and iOS defectors. Hulu Plus alone won’t change much, but every little helps.

The app is available to download for free now.
