With online video growing by leaps and bounds, production company Dolphin is partnering with mega-agency CAA to land high-profile directors at Web video companies like Yahoo, with the possibility of later releases on television or in theaters.
Action director John Woo is leading the pack. Woo’s project, Red Book, follows a man who trains as an assassin to hunt down the assassins who killed his father. An already-announced Yahoo show from CSI creator Anthony Zuiker, called Cybergeddon, tracks a near-future scenario in which wars are fought digitally.
Bill O’Dowd, Dolphin’s president, said Cybergeddon in particular would definitely have a DVD release post-Yahoo, and that he’s “highly confident” it will show up on linear television after it’s finished with the digital window.
David Freeman, co-head of brand coverage at CAA, said that the firm was very happy with its relationship with Dolphin, especially the financials.
