Netflix Is Now Letting Viewers Turn Off Autoplay While Browsing

The streaming giant announced the change on Twitter

Netflix added an option to turn off the autoplay previews on its browsing page today, according to a Twitter post.

The streaming giant retweeted an extensive thread on the topic from late January when one user offered to trade their “entire kingdom for a way to turn off the autoplay while browsing Netflix.” Dozens of other Netflix users replied directly to the tweet echoing the sentiment, and over 2,000 people liked the tweet.

And now, Netflix has delivered.

“We’ve heard the feedback loud and clear—and members can now control whether or not they see autoplay previews on Netflix,” Netflix said in the tweet.

In an email to Adweek, Netflix declined to expand on those comments on the record. However, on the settings page on Netflix’s website, the options to turn off autoplay previews during browsing and autoplay next episode in a series now exist.

In a recent letter to shareholders, Netflix said it’s up to 161 million global subscribers, with more than 100 million of those outside the U.S. But the company also acknowledged the increased competition its facing in the streaming space with the recent launches of Apple TV+, Disney+ and the forthcoming Peacock from NBCUniversal.
