Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Jan. 19 announced it is partnering with Dolby Laboratories, Tencent Video and Skyworth to bring 4K Ultra HD movies to China.
Titles include Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, The Lego Movie, Edge of Tomorrow, Jupiter Ascending, The Great Gatsby, San Andreas, Man of Steel, Pacific Rim and Run All Night.
The catalog fare will be available through Chinese streaming service Tencent Video and marketed in part by television manufacturer Skyworth, which sells 4K TVs featuring Dolby Vision.
The new high-definition audio is available domestically via electronic sellthrough services marketing more than 80 studio titles in 4K UHD. Additionally, more than 100 hours of original 4K content is available in Dolby Vision across OTT video providers globally, and consumers will soon have access to Dolby Vision titles on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc this year.
“Warner films delivered through Tencent Video … will provide the most vibrant and lifelike picture quality we’ve ever been able to deliver to the home [in China],” Ron Sanders, president of Warner Bros. Worldwide Home Entertainment Distribution, said in a statement.
Warner’s ties to China began in earnest in 2005 when it became the first major studio to establish a DVD distribution and marketing operation in China.
Elaine Feng, who previously headed Warner Music China, last summer was named president of Flagship Pictures China, a joint venture between Warner Bros. and CMC Holdings, focusing on local language movies for the burgeoning Chinese box office.
