Vevo’s New Tool Enables Users To Create GIFs From Its Massive Music Video Trove

Vevo has launched a new feature today whereby viewers will be able to search through its vast trove of music videos and create — and share — five-second GIFs. The GIF maker is only available on Vevo’s desktop site, Engadget reports, though it is slated to roll out to Vevo’s iOS and Android apps in the future.

The feature works with a little GIF button that, according to Engadget, gives users the ability to scrub back and forth through a video’s playback controls in order to determine the exact slice they want to capture. Users can also add a line of text to any captured clips. GIFs can be no more than 5 seconds, and can only be shared via Facebook and Twitter thus far. GIFs cannot be downloaded as of now — but the company will enable sharing via other social platforms imminently, it says.

At the same time, Vevo added an activity feed to both its website and iOS app, which, along with GIFs, serve to amp up sharing and increase the platform’s functionality as a social network of sorts. Users will be able to follow friends as well as their favorite artists via the activity feed and see whenever fellow users post or like videos, or create playlists.
