Hulu has renewed The Awesomes.
The animated series from Seth Meyers and Mike Shoemaker, which is currently in its second season, will return for a third in 2015.
The Awesomes tells the origin story of a superhero team that becomes less than super when its most powerful members leave. Meyers voices the character Prock and several of his friends and former Saturday Night Live colleagues, including Taran Killam, Kenan Thompson and Rashida Jones, voice other members of The Awesomes team. Amy Poehler, Will Forte, Maya Rudolph and Kate McKinnon joined the cast for the second season, which premiered Aug. 4 on Hulu.
“When we first premiered season one of The Awesomes two years ago, we knew it was going to be a big success for Hulu,” said Hulu originals head Beatrice Springborn. “With a growing fan base from season to season and a cast featuring some of the funniest people on television, it was a natural decision for us to renew the show for a third season.”
The Awesomes is part of Hulu’s slate of original series, which include dark comedy Deadbeat and East Los High, a racy teen drama that was also recently renewed for a third season. The decision to renew the adult animated series comes a month after Hulu announced that it had acquired streaming rights to the long-running Comedy Central animated series South Park.
The Awesomes is a Hulu co-production with Broadway Video and is executive produced by Meyers, Shoemaker, Broadway Video’s Andrew Singer and Bento Box Entertainment, which also serves as the animator for the series.
