SeaChange International and InView Technology have teamed up to launch a new video on-demand service on connected TVs across Europe, offering content via subscription and pay-per-view.

InView, which supplies electronic programme guide (EPG) services to millions of Freeview homes in the UK, will provide its NEELiX platform for the new service, offering integrated EPG data, media browsing and video streaming.

The On Demand Group, a VOD aggregator owned by SeaChange, will give consumers "unprecedented access" to the latest blockbuster movies via transactional video on-demand (TVOD), along with delivering a library of on-demand content on a subscription video on-demand (SVOD) basis, including children's programming, TV series and music videos.

The new service will launch on "millions" of connected TV sets across Europe, starting in Italy in the second quarter of this year. Plans for a UK launch have not yet been announced.

"We are very excited about the agreement with InView, which further demonstrates our content aggregation strategy and objective of offering on-demand content anywhere, anytime, anyplace," said Tony Kelly, On Demand Group chief executive.

"InView's development of added value services to connected TVs has been very impressive and we look forward to working together."

Inview chairman Ken Austin added: "We are delighted to be working with Europe's leading VOD aggregator - On Demand Group has contracts with all the major Hollywood movie studios, premium TV and music suppliers.

"The launch of TV on-demand services will substantially enhance our consumer offer and allow our consumers a total TV experience to watch the programme of their choice whenever they want."

Last month, InView partnered with TV listings magazine Radio Times to launch the new Radio Times Extra EPG data service in nearly four million Freeview homes.
